Recently Adobe has taken a lot of heat directed at their mainstream program known as Flash on issues ranging from no 64-bit support, mobile platform issues, stability, to possible exploits in their code. However, the folks at Adobe Systems have been working hard on their platform by bringing it to Android, fixing key security issues, and bringing 64-bit support to Windows. Adobe has announced that their upcoming update will include 3D web graphics.

As of now WebGL is used by the major web browsers ranging from Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, but conveniently forgotten from the upcoming IE9 update.  Flash is often described as buggy and a large CPU hog, however Adobe has sidestepped large browser compatibility issues by providing a interface that works cross-platform.

Flash is used in most major online gaming sites such as Kongregate and the Armor games communities. However, for the games we like to play (for example the ones found on steam) take advantage of Microsoft’s Direct3D software. With the Adobe update we can see a bright new future for Flash in the gaming community. Who knows, Black Ops on Flash?
