lostwinds

In the last few days I played throughout the most recent installment in the Lost Winds series, and I must say, I loved it.

Like the first it had that wonderful innovative feel to it, with some new twists keeping it interesting and inviting to all players. As with the first it trumps it in almost every way, detail, story, handle and so much more, as said by some its like a little Zelda to go, with its short but sweet and puzzling style it keeps you going just to see whats next. The main complaint about the first Lost Winds was that it was so short, a great problem for any developer and Frontier fixed that, while Winter of the Melodias isn’t a lot longer then the first it does hold more content and playtime, with the limitations on WiiWare games to 50 MB’s its quite the prize. and with its 1000 Wii points price its more innovative and interesting then many 50 dollar titles that come out in disk form.

With that said, in this installment you join Toku once more along with Enril the Wind spirit, you start out searching for Toku’s mother who has gone missing in search of the City of the Melodias the city where the ancient Melodias once lived and used their musical powers to control things. Some new things about this Lost Winds is the ability to change seasons from summer to winter, allowing for more devious puzzles and more interesting gameplay. It also sports other new powers such as creating a cyclone to rise up Toku or move water from one place to another by making it into a raincloud. The graphical style in the first itself is one of the best on the Wii overall, and Lost Winds 2 is in no way a let down to that, with more indepth backgrounds and slight cutscenes that really add alot that the first one didn’t have. The game time if you play it all the way through is easily twice as long as the first, with a very fun final battle and if you collect the statues that are scattered about you unlock stuff that can be viewed at the main menu, adding more gameplay/replayablity.

Overall I say get it, its only 10 dollars and will make you feel you actually spent that on something worth while. While I generally am not impressed with Wii Ware games, this one just shows that the Wii can be great and can have great games by 3rd party developers.
